Illuminate 2014

Friday, November 21, 2014 - 4:00pm

Kick off the America's Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration this year with the first annual Illuminate 2014 ceremony.

Illuminate the rich history of the holiday, and be reminded of its inspirational message of peace and gratitude.

Plymouth 400, Inc. and America's Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration invite you to join us at the base of Cole's Hill on the eve of the America's Hometown Thanksgiving Parade for the first annual Illuminate event this November 21 at 4:00 PM. After inspirational performances and speeches, the community is encouraged to join us in lighting a candle to signify that "One small candle may light a thousand" and then enjoy live music and special offers at the street festival which will illuminate Court Street and Main Street in Plymouth.

The event will begin with a candle-lighting ceremony in conjunction with Plymouth’s sister-city, Plymouth, England, to celebrate the deep connection between the two created by the Mayflower’s voyage to Plymouth Colony in 1620. The event’s symbolic lighting of the candles from one person to another, and one city to another is meant to inspire a sense of unity and a spirit of gratitude among all those participating. The ceremony will include words from Senate President Therese Murray and acclaimed speaker, author and international stress management and humorist Loretta LaRoche; and performances by the United States Air Force’s touring performance ensemble Tops in Blue and Plymouth North High School’s a cappella group Northern Lights

Illuminate 2014 will continue with a street festival on Main and Court Streets where visitors and locals can enjoy live art and music, special offers at shops and restaurants, and more.  Starting up Historic Leyden Street (named after the city in Holland that offered the Pilgrims refuge before coming to America), we’ll be showcasing Plymouth’s restaurants and shops. Attendees will be greeted by an enchanting array of local and regional visual and performing artists including fanciful illuminations, historic re-enactors - First Nations Women Warriors Color Guard, Freemen of the Sea, Jenney Museum Pilgrims, New Plimmoth Gard, and Vintage Red Stockings; music will feature Grand 27, The Sibs, The American Originals, Emily Hodges, Willie Dinardo & the Corporates, and more creating some glowing memories.
