The Plymouth Tapestry will tell the story of early Plymouth in a heroically-scaled needlework piece, based on original artwork by Plymouth artist Elizabeth Creeden, and created entirely by hand by volunteer stitchers.

A visual exploration of history, memory, and culture, the Plymouth Tapestry illustrates the experiences of the Wampanoag people who inhabited the region for thousands of years, and the Pilgrims, the English settlers who arrived on the Mayflower in 1620 to establish a new home in a unique place. The multi-media-thread-on-linen embroidery will be comprised of twenty 6-foot-long panels. Through imagery and text, each panel reveals contexts and events that shaped the founding of Plymouth Colony. Selected panels will be displayed in fall 2019 and through 2020, with accompanying programs and opportunities to work in progress. The entire Tapestry series will be exhibited on completion in 2021.
