Shining a light on 400 years

The Official Website of the
Plymouth 400

Darkness descended quickly on the Mayflower II, so much so that Ellie Donovan fumbled to click on a light at the podium so she could read her speech during a ceremony Sunday marking the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims departing England for the New World.

The executive director of Plimoth Plantation didn’t have any difficulty flipping the next switch, though. That one lit up the ship on the Plymouth Waterfront in spectacular fashion. Amidst applause from the crowd onshore, lights were beaming all over the Mayflower, including one that splashed a large “400” outlined across the hull and others that highlighted the spars with blue hues.
