Join us for an encore of the first episode of our Plymouth 400 CONVERSATIONS series on PACTV (Plymouth Area Community Television)! Our guest will be Mary Shields. The program will air on June 17th at 7:30PM on Comcast channel 13 and Verizon channel 43 in the towns of Plymouth, Duxbury, Kingston, and Pembroke. We will also add a streaming link to this page after the program airs.

Mary Shields is the author of Barnicle and Husk: The Adventure Begins chapter book, and Barnicle and Husk: The Beginning pre-reader. The books are the first of a historical book series on America’s founding story for children ages 7-11. The first book focuses on Wampanoag culture and history through the eyes of the main characters, a story not previously told in a children’s book.

Mary is also the founder of Shields Design Studio, the firm that created Plymouth 400’s branding materials and website. Shields Design and Barnicle and Husk are Plymouth 400 Founding Signature Sponsors.

Going to America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Parade? Stop by the historic Jabez Howland House from 9:30AM to 2:00PM and meet Barnicle and Husk! The Howland House is located at 33 Sandwich Street near the intersection of Water Street, just steps away from the parade route. Pose for photos with our dynamic duo and pick up a free activity sheet for the kids, while supplies last! Watch our FREE Barnicle and Husk movie playing every 15 minutes! Plus we’ll have books for sale and you can meet Mary Shields, author of Barnicle and Husk: The Adventure Begins, and Peter Arenstam, co-author of the next book in the Barnicle and Husk series (to be announced)! Barnicle and Husk will also be at Town Square from 3:30-4:30PM. They’ll be greeting attendees of Plymouth 400’s Illuminate Thanksgiving event, outside the Mayflower Meetinghouse (formerly First Parish Church).

Kids will have fun while they learn about Wampanoag culture and history at the next Reading Makes Cent$ Event with Barnicle and Husk! The event will take place on Tuesday, July 16th from 5-6pm at the Manomet Village Community Center at Simes House! Author Mary Shields will do a reading from the book “Barnicle and Husk: The Adventure Begins,” and kids will enjoy watching an animated storybook while they enjoy popcorn snacks! Then, Barnicle and Husk, our favorite cat and mouse duo, will appear to greet families and pose for photos! Plus, kids will receive free activity sheets!
