Tobias Vanderhoop Named to Plymouth 400 Commission

Tobias Vanderhoop, chairman of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), has been named to the state commission in charge of planning observances for the 400th anniversary of the Plymouth Colony Settlement.
The Plymouth, Massachusetts 400th Anniversary Commission was sworn in Tuesday by Gov. Charlie Baker, according to a press release. The commission, created by an executive order, is tasked with “ensuring a befitting national and state observance of the settlement of Plymouth Colony in 1620.” The observance includes educational programming and a look at the state’s history, natural resources and diverse cultural contributions.
Dusty Rhodes of Conventures, an event planning company, will serve as chairman, and Marlo Fogelman of marlo marketing will serve as vice-chairman. Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe chairman Cedric Cromwell and University of Massachusetts president Marty Meehan are honorary chairmen.
Mr. Vanderhoop is one of 26 commissioners appointed by the governor. He was elected in 2013. The commission also includes members of the state legislature, state officials, and representatives from a variety of businesses and organizations.
According to the website of Plymouth 400 Inc., a nonprofit organization that is commemorating the anniversary, events and programs to celebrate the anniversary include historical and cultural exhibitions, live televised and web events, multi-day festivals, arts and entertainment collaborations and educational programming.
