Wampum Meets Wool: A Story of Two Cultures

The Official Website of the
Plymouth 400
Commemoration

Since it was officially founded in 2009, Plymouth 400 Inc. has spent the past 5 years laying the groundwork for what promises to be the most significant historic anniversary in the United States to date; the founding of the first permanent colony in America.
So what exactly is “Plymouth 400?”
Plymouth 400, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization formed to lead the planning and execution of the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims landing and establishing Plymouth Colony. This historical and cultural commemoration will involve a series of events and programs designed to highlight America’s story of challenge, perseverance, and thanksgiving that began with the 1620 landing of the Pilgrims and their relationship with the Wampanoag people. As an organization, Plymouth 400, Inc. is committed to creating a commemoration that is both historically accurate and culturally inclusive.
Who is Plymouth 400?
Led by Executive Director Michele Pecoraro and a board of local and regional representatives with diverse backgrounds, Plymouth 400 is driven by a team of individuals who are passionate and enthusiastic about sharing the rich history and culture of the story of the Pilgrims and the Wampanoags, which is such a crucial part of American history. Interested in joining the team? We are always looking for volunteers to help us at our events; contact us here.
Events? Tell me more.
Plymouth 400 currently has several “Lead-Up Events” planned, which will take place each year leading up to 2020. These events are organized and executed by local committees in partnership with Plymouth 400 and each has the fundamental goal of raising awareness and funds for our organization. Last weekend, for example, was the Bass & Blue tournament, which began with the Captains and Crew cocktail party at Brewer’s Marina in Plymouth. On August 2nd we’ll host Forefathers Family Fun Day, and this year’s theme will highlight the 125th anniversary of the National Monument to the Forefathers. This winter we’ll ring in the New Year with our Plymouth Rocks New Year’s Eve celebration. If you or your organization is interested in partnering with Plymouth 400 to put on a Lead-Up event, please fill out an event proposal form.
So what’s actually happening in 2020?
We have seven “Signature Programs & Events” and several legacy projects planned for 2020 which will include not only our town and country, but also the entire world. However, you’re just going to have to stay tuned for more details!
What can I do in the meantime?
We’ll keep you entertained with our Lead-Up events and promise that we’ll also be active and informative on social media. We’ll be posting blogs frequently and have lots of fun and engaging activities you’ll be able to take part in; Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+ and we’ll keep you involved, laughing, and informed.
