Located at the southern end of Cole’s Hill in Plymouth will be a new legacy park which has long been planned by the Pilgrim Society and Pilgrim Hall Museum, Plymouth 400 and The Horsely Witten Group. Remembrance Park will honor three episodes of historical challenge: The Great Dying of 1616-1619 that severely afflicted the Wampanoag people; the first winter of 1620-1621 during which half of the Mayflower colonists perished of contagious sickness; and the 2020 global pandemic that has caused widespread mortality and disrupted the lives of billions of people.
Phase 1 of the construction of the Park is now underway with an archeological dig performed by a team from the University of Massachusetts Boston’s Fiske Center for Archaeological Research. Learn more about Remembrance Park at the Pilgrim Hall Museum website.
