Commemoration

PLYMOUTH, MA— Plymouth 400, Inc. announced that it sold the required 1,500 Plymouth 400 commemorative license plates and will soon submit all completed applications to the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV). Each initial sale of a Plymouth 400 commemorative plate will raise $28 for the organization’s events and programs commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage and the founding of Plymouth Colony, events that significantly shaped the building of America. This Massachusetts specialty plate features the Plymouth 400 logo in blue, and at the bottom reads “An American Story, A National Legacy” which is the organization’s tagline.
“Plymouth 400 staff and volunteers have put an incredible amount of time and effort into reaching our goal of 1,500 plates sold and we are so appreciative of all those who purchased a commemorative plate,” says Michele Pecoraro, Executive Director of Plymouth 400. “A team of volunteers is working diligently help us finalize applications which we will submit, with the required $100,000 bond, to the RMV as soon as they are complete and accurate.”
Under state law, charitable groups may create their own distinctive Massachusetts license plates pending they meet the following requirements: first, the sponsoring organization must collect 1,500 applications for their plate and the RMV must approve the design; Second, before any plates can go into production, the organization must post a $100,000 bond. If the organization meets these requirements, the plates are produced by the RMV. There are currently 15 Massachusetts specialty plates available at the RMV, supporting everything from the New England Patriots to Conquering Cancer.
The RMV also requires that another 1,500 plates are sold over the next two years after the initial round is distributed, however this process will be managed by the RMV, which will allow for broader promotion on the RMV’s website and offices Statewide. Plymouth 400 will support the sales with its own advertising, public relations, and social media efforts.
