PLYMOUTH, MA— The fourth annual Plymouth 400 Bass and Blue Fishing Tournament is introducing the inaugural “Seafood Smackdown: Best Fish Taco” contest, a live cooking competition hosted by award-winning chef Ray Alongi at Pilgrim Memorial State Park on Saturday July 11, 2015. Local amateur chefs will create their best fish taco dishes in front of a live audience, and special guest judges will determine who will win the Seafood Smackdown grand prize package, which includes their recipe being featured on the menu at the New World Tavern of Plymouth from July 17-19, a one-time cooking feature on PAC-TV to share with family and friends, and a Plymouth 400 swag bag!
All Seafood Smackdown entries will be judged by Chef Ray Alongi, who has been featured on television programs such as Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen with Gordon Ramsay. Chef Alongi will choose the two recipes he feels are the most pleasing to taste and best represent Plymouth.  The two finalists will then compete live on July 11, 2015 at the Seafood Smackdown at Pilgrim Memorial State Park at 10am. The community is invited to watch the two contestants recreate their recipes in Foodzilla on Wheels, a 34’ full-service kitchen on wheels created and operated by Erik Christensen of Loretta LaRoche Productions and Chris Casciano, while enjoying music from Project Arts’ Plymouth Harbor Roots & Folk Festival. The winner will be chosen at 11am by a panel celebrity judges, including humorist Loretta LaRoche and celebrity chef Suzannah Locketti from The Next Food Network Star.
Families are invited to stick around after the Seafood Smackdown contest to enjoy a live Oyster Shucking Contest with oysters donated by Plymouth Rock Oysters. The oysters will then be prepared & served out of Foodzilla on Wheels for attendees to enjoy all day long!
We will also have children’s activities provided by local agricultural organizations, and the Project Arts Roots and Folk Festival, a free music event featuring acts from across the region, will be ongoing throughout the weekend at the Harbor Light Pavillion.
